World Travel Awards 2024: Arbatax Park confirmed as the World’s Leading Eco Resort and World’s Leading Resort Sensory Garden
For the sixth consecutive year, Arbatax Park Resort, the Sardinian property owned by the Mazzella Group, has received the most coveted and prestigious international recognition in the tourism industry. The World Travel Awards, often referred to as the Oscars of tourism, have named it the World’s Leading Eco Resort 2024 and World’s Leading Resort Sensory Garden 2024.
The announcement was made during the Grand Final Gala Ceremony held on November 24th in Madeira. These global accolades join those awarded earlier this year on March 6th, when the resort was named Europe’s Leading Eco Resort 2024 and Italy’s Leading Eco Resort 2024 in Berlin.
Arbatax Park’s recent recognition as the Best Eco Resort in the World brings the enchanting land of Sardinia—a symbol of ancient strength, beauty, and longevity—back to the international spotlight, establishing it as the global leader in eco-sustainable hospitality. The recognition for the resort’s Sensory Garden highlights its dedication to creating enchanting experiences immersed in nature.
“For us, it is truly an immense honor to bring home the world’s most prestigious tourism award, along with an additional recognition for our Sensory Garden,” said Giorgio and Attilio Mazzella.
“This significant achievement reflects our vision and the commitment and dedication of our staff, who support us every day. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has chosen to support us in this ambitious challenge.”
The History of the Resort
Arbatax Park Resort was founded in 2010, inspired by the vision of entrepreneurs Giorgio and Angela Mazzella, who have long been dedicated to the island’s tourism development. Sharing a passion for nature, preserving local traditions, and promoting environmental conservation have always been the resort’s core values. Among its many creations is the Sensory Garden, an enchanting green space for all ages, where visitors can stroll through vibrant flowers, enjoy relaxing activities like yoga and meditation, and engage in sensory experiences designed to stimulate all five senses.
Arbatax Park is set on a peninsula spanning over 60 hectares of unspoiled nature, a magical location home to the only resort in the world combining a modern concept of global well-being with a nature reserve, the Bellavista Park. With over 500,000 plants, 500 animals, and 5 kilometers of walking trails, a team of 500 people cares for the park and its guests daily. The resort also features a Wellness and Spa Center, where water plays a central role in promoting health and well-being, and an organic garden, where guests can participate in cultivating and harvesting fruits and vegetables.
An Eco-Sustainable Resort
At Arbatax Park Resort, everything is designed with environmental conservation in mind, thanks to various eco-sustainable activities carried out daily. The resort emphasizes recycling and the use of alternative energy sources, making it an inspiring example of sustainability and a valuable resource to protect. Through small daily gestures, best practices, and initiatives to enhance the local area, the resort lays out a concrete path toward a sustainable future for generations to come.
Sustainability here goes beyond environmental protection to include territorial enhancement and integration, such as a network of solidarity gardens providing zero-kilometer products to the resort and activities like « CleanUp Day » or « Treeonfy. » These initiatives involve cleaning coasts and seabeds of waste and plastic or planting trees to boost local biodiversity and protect bees.
Additionally, the resort hosts recent running events through the Bellavista Nature Park and the streets of the fishing village of Arbatax. There are also gastronomic evenings featuring recipes of the Centenarians during the « A Chent’annos… a Tavola! » series, showcasing the culinary traditions of Ogliastra, one of the world’s five Blue Zones, and celebrating Sardinian musicians, both renowned and emerging, during the summer InCantos events.
