Is Animas… Halloween in Ogliastra!

October 31 is famous around the world to be the Halloween day, a typical celebration of the culture of the people of Northern Europe that first invaded North America to spread again in Europe.

In Sardinia there is a tradition that is similar to the American and Anglo-Saxon one and it has different names depending on the areas of the island: is Animas, su Mortu Mortu, is Animeddas, Su ‘ene ‘e sas ànimas, su Prugadòriu, etc…

This event is celebrated between the end of October and the early days of November and, as in the American tradition, even in Sardinia children ask some little gift door-to-door for the deceased loved, the «little souls».

On 31 October and 1 November in Tortolì there will be many activities to celebrate the ancient tradition of «Is Animas».
